Live from Tacoma, WA it's the Northwest BRT!
Tonight, my Mom and I went and saw the Memphis Redbirds and Tacoma Rainiers square off at Cheney Stadium. It was absolutely gorgeous here today with temperatures in the upper 70s for most of the day. Needless to say, it was a really good day for baseball.
Cheney Stadium is a very nice ballpark that really has no frills. It is simple and doable, and that is what I like about it. At so many parks nowadays, there are too many gimmicks and promotions that detract from the atmosphere of the game itself. Cheney does a very fine job of keeping the focus of the fans on the game and not inundating them with useless promotions or gimmicks that have no bearing on the game whatsoever.
That being said, I do have one pet-peeve of Cheney that is kind of nagging at me. Why does it have to be so far away from the core of the city? Perhaps it is because downtown Tacoma is so creepy and weird. There seems to be a lot of illicit activities been engaged down there. Transferring buses was very creepy and downright scary. So, Cheney is far away, and it is kind of bothersome. But I can see a few reasons as to why that is, and I understand it.
Tacoma pounded out 19 hits in a 10-6 victory.
Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
