Are we too loud?

Hey everyone!

Just got back from a very enjoyable trip up and back to Portland. I went up with a couple of friends from high school. They had never been to a baseball game before.

The Beavers and Iowa Cubs labored through a marathon 13-inning affair lasting over four hours. The game was moved up an hour because of a promotional concert with the band Neverclaim that the Beavers were sponsoring. Because of the long game, the City of Portland said that the band couldn't play because it was in violation of a city noise ordinance. Consequently, after about the 11th inning, all loud noises from PGE Park stopped. Announcers, sound effects, music. It was almost an eerie silence.

I went to the game with a young lady who was attending her very first baseball game, ever. It was kind of cool to talk to her about the game at the fundamental level and how everything works. The most incredible thing was straight out of the movies. I mentioned to her the exploits of Babe Ruth, and she goes "huh?" Just like The Sandlot, I was rather aghast at her lack of knowledge, but I calmly explained who the Great Bambino was, what he did, and why he's important. Maybe she was being deliberately ignorant, but it was fun to talk about Ruth and the game.

The Beavos got a game winning RBI from Mike Baxter in the bottom of the 13th and were also bolstered by a Valentino Pascucci grand slam in the 1st to win the game 10-9 over the Iowa Cubs.

Nine days from now, I will be going to AT&T Park to see the San Francisco Giants host the Colorado Rockies. As many of you know, both those teams are fighting for wild-card spots, so it should be a very entertaining game to go to. The main purpose of this trip, however, is to support my mom in her attempt to swim from Alcatraz to San Francisco that morning.

I will be bringing along the computer and will update this blog.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
