The waiting IS the hardest part

After an overnight train trip, I now am in Chicago, IL. Resting comfortably at my hotel mere blocks from Wrigley Field, I'd like to update all of you on what I did today and the predicament I find myself in right now.

I got into Chicago early this morning. I proceeded to cross Canal Street and ascend up to the skydeck of the Sears Tower. I must say, the view from up there is incredible. From there, even on a cloudy day, it was possible to see three total states and numerous other sights. Of course, I immediately look for Wrigley Field and US Cellular Field. Saw US Cellular very easy, but Wrigley evaded my eyes. Oh well, I'll be seeing it up close here in another couple of hours.

After returning to the ground, I boarded the Green Line to the 51st Street Station on Chicago's South Side. Why would I go down there, you may ask? Easy. That is where the residence of President Obama is. For as big of a tourist attraction as it has become, the journey is very shady and rather scary. In the blocks immediately around the residence, there are numerous gang activities and an active police presence. That wasn't exactly the safest part of town.

When I finally got to the residence, Chicago Police had barricaded the enitre block. The house itself is obscured by a bunch of trees and shrubs, although there are a few vantage points where you can see Obama's basketball hoop and the First Lady's flower beds. Other than that, the Police don't let you anywhere near the property.

I took the train back up into Chicago and proceeded to make my way to Grant Park. There, I rested a little and snapped some pictures of the famous Buckingham Fountain. It was then that the weather started to take a turn for the worse. Showers have been off and on here for the past hour, and the weather forecast calls for more of the same except for some thunderstorms around dinner time.

If you're reading this, please whisper a prayer to the weather Gods. I've traveled so far to see this game and the anticipation for this game, in particular, is a lot higher than normal. Seeing a game at Wrigley Field is the baseball fans' ultimate nirvana. A little rain cannot stop that. Let's just hope that it all works out.

I'll post another update after the game.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
