The Piedmont Awaits!

Hey Everyone!

Well, my bro did it. He won the Regional Championship meet, so we will be off to Greensboro, NC at the end of this month. I will be hitting four teams in and around Greensboro.

On July 29, I will catch the Savannah Sand Gnats play the Greensboro Grasshoppers at Newbridge Bank Park in Greensboro. I hear that this ballpark is the gem of the South Atlantic League, and I am looking forward to visiting.

July 30 will take me one city down from Greensboro to the small community of Burlington. There I will see the Danville Braves play the Burlington Royals. This is rookie level Appalachian League ball. This league is supposed to be pure baseball with no unnecessary frills attached. It's affordable, quality entertainment. Ever since I started these Baseball Roadtrips, I have always wanted to go to an Appy League park. Now I am going to get a chance.

The next day, I will drive the two hours to Zebulon to see Charleston play the Carolina Mudcats. I have read mixed reviews of this park, so I'll see for myself.

The final day, August 1, we will visit the "most famous" minor league baseball team, the Durtham Bulls. Featured in a 1980's movie with Kevin Costner and Tim Robbins, the Bulls have moved into a newer ballpark that is supposed to be very nice and a lot better than the park that was in the movie.

As all of you can see, this is going to be a very exciting and interesting roadtrip. My bro and I will probably hit up some other touristy things while were there. Tops on my list, at least, is to see Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University. We'll figure out someway and sometime to go there.

In the mean time, this BRT is being made possible by my bro jumping well and his dedication to track. This trip is supposed to be about track, but we're gonna have some fun on the side and do this BRT.

This Wednesday, I will be travelling up to Portland to see the Triple A All-Star Game at PGE Park. This is going to be a once in a lifetime experience that I am eagerly looking forward to. The future MLB stars will be on display. Just looking through the roster of the PCL and IL makes me giddy. As of right now, Clay Bucholz from the Pawtucket Red Sox is scheduled to start for the IL. The PCL starter has not been determined. Either way, Bucholz pitched a no-hitter for the parent-club Red Sox at Fenway last year and is expected to be the next great pitcher in baseball.

I will post an update after the game on Wednesday and probably once more before heading off to NC.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
