Something's Come Up

Hey Everyone!

I hope all of you had a wonderful and safe holiday. The 4th of July is my favorite holiday, by far. So much activity happens in one day with all of the parades, parties, and fireworks. This year was kinda mellow for me. I spent a lot of time with my family at the house in Creswell. We had two bbq's for friends, dedicated a new pavilion at our local park, and shot off the multitude of fireworks in the evening. After all the hubbub of working, school, and BRTs, it was nice to relax and unwind with a cold beer, good food, and my family.

An interesting development has occurred with regards to BRTs for this summer. It is a development that I am very excited and intrigued by, and I thought it would be a good idea for me to tell you all about it. It is rather spontaneous as I have just learned of it in the last 24 hours.

My brother, as many of you know, is quite the accomplished high jumper. He has already won state, and will be competing in the Junior Olympic Regional Meet next Sunday. If he wins, which I think he will, he will go to the National meet in Greensboro, NC at the end of this month.

As his coach, my parents have said that if he were to qualify for the national meet, that they would pay for me to go to North Carolina to coach him over July 28-August 2. This opens up an opportunity to morph that trip into a legitimate BRT to the state of North Carolina.

There are a lot of teams in and around Greensboro that I would very much like to see. It all depends on how well my brother does, and how much my parents are willing to pay for. Even going down there to see a couple games would be an experience in itself. It is a very exotic roadtrip that is off the beaten path. It would not follow the typical template I use for all my past BRTs, simply because of the rather random destination.

The only thing to do now is to help my bro as much as I can and root for him to win the Regional meet next Sunday. If that can happen, a door to a neat BRT would open up. I haven't put together any preliminary itineraries yet. I'm just sitting back and waiting for the meet to come.

Always take on a 3-0 pitch ;)
